Method: Anglo-Saxon Runes
Rune Drawn: æsc
Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem:
Ash is very tall, and very dear to men
Steady on its base, it holds its stead rightly
Though it is fought against by many folks.
Ash was used for making spear shafts and it’s not difficult
to associate the poem’s verse with a defensive action with ground being held by
spearmen, which more accurately portrays a skirmish of that age, chain mail,
swords and helmets being worn and used by the wealthy. This rune then, socially
would refer to the poorer classes.
It teaches that there is strength in numbers and not to be
too proud to accept help.
Some spears were meant for throwing, others for holding and
thrusting and parrying. That would be very dangerous for a man on his own.
Again then, accepting help or support.
