Kabbalah – Path 19 joining Chesed (Mercy) with Geburah (Severity) Today is my wife’s birthday and she is away working in the UK over the holiday period, so this card is for her. In other decks this card is called Strength. Lady Harris who painted the original cards said of this one: “Well you must understand the feeling of it. Now how do you feel if you see nice chocolates and there, you get them and how good they taste. That is a picture of how you feel about those chocolates.” This is a card about how you feel about your life. Deities connected with this card are those associated with the power of the female to arouse, harness and direct their own animal natures. From my own tradition that would be Freyja. The lion symbol is associated with Demeter and Astarte, but cats are sacred to Freyja who rides in a chariot pulled by cats. The woman in the image is Babylon from Christian mythology, The Book of Revelation. The scarlet woman, riding the 7 headed beast and elevating the Holy Grail. The message of this card though is a spiritual one and that is to seek a higher level of consciousness, you have the ability for so much more, you can raise it almost to the level of divinity. You neglect the spiritual part of you, filling a void with nonsense. Lust isn’t all about physical impulses but the yearning or desire for greater understanding of the universe. This card shows the need for courage, fortified by your inner strength which is greater than you imagine. Today should be filled with energy and action. The card suggests resorting to magick. It’s time you explored the nature of your spirit.
