Daily Draw

Daily Draw Saturday, 12 November 2016 Method: Anglo Saxon Runes (Card) Stave Drawn: Ac (Oak) Last drawn Saturday, 22 November 2014. The Rune Poem verse is: Oak is on the earth for the children of men The nourishment of meat; it often fares Over the gannet’s bath: The sea finds out Whether the oak keeps noble troth. I last drew this rune on Sunday, 06 December 2015. The meaning of oak in the runes is quite different to that of the Celtic ogham. This is because of the influence of the sea on a sea faring people, who constructed their ships from oak. The reference to the nourishment of meat is to the acorns which fed pigs. So the oak is seen as a great provider. It feeds the pigs, which men in turn feed on and it supplies timber for construction. It also has associations to Thunor or Thor, due to its strength and durability, to say nothing of it being prone to lighting strikes. The poem speaks of loyalty, a quality I value highly. Once broken, it can not be repaired. The rune also stands for honesty and I value my integrity and am often too honest for my own good. The rune cautions me to look to long term benefits rather than short term gains and not to choose the easy path. Plan for the future.
