Daily Draw Thursday, 10 November 2016 Method: Druid Animal Oracle Animal Dawn: Frog Sensitivity, Medicine, Hidden Beauty and Power. The image on the card is the common frog crawling out of a pond in which there is frogspawn, which was once a powerful medicine. On the frog’s right is frog berry, better known today as cranberry, recognised for its medicinal berries even today. Also, there is frog’s spindle. The toadstools on the left were once known as frog’s stools. The frog is a cold-blooded animal living both in the water and on land. It has a very sensitive skin, which was considered magickal by wise men and women. The frog can help become sensitive towards others and towards healing and sound through the skin, the whole body and the aura. The frog asks me to look for hidden beauty and magick in all things, in all of nature. The frog’s watery home is sacred to Druids, past and present. Every river, spring and well had its guardian spirits. I wonder about man-made lakes, as there is one near here, which has been drained for repair and I was very angry that it was drained, because of the wildlife I’d seen living there. It affects me still, as it is still empty. Sometimes the spirits of the waters were seen as frogs or toads and they were thought to be creatures of the underworld. Because of this they became associated with witchcraft, both as witches familiar and more often as part of a potion. As a familiar of a witch or Ovate, the frog is a helper bringing blessings of the water spirits, bringing rain and purification, which is a use of water. It was a messenger from the mother Goddess, bringing healing. The afore mentioned frogs spawn was a cure for rheumatism. Everyone is familiar with princesses going around kissing frogs and frogs turning into handsome princes. This is the teaching of looking for hidden beauty and magick in all things.
