Daily Draw

Daily Draw Saturday, 29 October 2016 Method: Elder Germanic Runes Rune Drawn: Mannaz Anglo Saxon Rune Poem Verse: Man is in his mirth dear to his kinsman, although each shall depart from the other, for the Lord wants to commit, by his decree, that frail flesh to the earth. The Christian influence on this verse is obvious. The Lord could be Frey. As Frey and Freyja means Lord and Lady, but Frey isn’t a god of death. I imagine Woden has been replaced by the word Lord here, as Woden is a god associated with death. Man is referring to the individual person and their own mortality. Something on the mind of many people from time to time. I have a lot of experience in this area and so it is natural to dwell on it from time to time, especially as I’m in the Autumn of my life. We all need to face our own mortality and make wills and so on. This rune encourages a time of introspection and reflection on my life. Friendship is another facet of this rune. In the poem it suggests great joy and comfort from friends. This is something I find difficult to master because my mind is on esoteric things and the things I’m interested in, others are not and I have no interest in things like football, getting drunk and so on and so I don’t have any real friends, yet it doesn’t really bother me. The old and outdated needs to be cast off, this is usually an ongoing process. The rune advises me to indulge in myself a bit, be selfish, look after myself and my health. Don’t take on too much, put myself first and try to enjoy my life more.
