Daily Draw

Daily Draw Saturday, 01 October 2016 Method: Anglo Saxon Runes: Ken. The Anglo Saxon Rune Poem. Torch is to every living person, known by its fire, It is clear and bright, it usually burns, When noble-men rest inside the hall. The Old Norwegian Norse Rhyme. Sore is the curse of children, Grief makes a man pale. The Old Icelandic Rune Poem. Sore is the bane of children and a scourge, And the house of rotten flesh. Last drawn on Thursday, 16 June 2016 using the Elder Germanic Runes where the rune is called Kaunaz. Ken is a torch, the reference to it burning while noble-men rest inside the hall conjures up images of flaming torches hanging from sconces on the walls. It was the first form of internal lighting. The glow from the torches bringing cheer and welcome light when all would be in darkness. It is a symbol of education and learning, if you can also imagine monks and scribes studying and writing under its light. Of course in winter nights it also added warmth. Kaunaz is a rune associated with the minor fire God, Loki. Although the light and warmth were welcome, it wasn’t without danger. I think Loki is interfering in my life again today, bringing unhappiness, but I can also use the fire to ward off my enemies.
