Daily Draw
Method: Anglo Saxon Runes
Stave Dawn: Algiz.
This rune means “Protection.”
The Anglo Saxon rune poem verse is:
Elk’s sedge has its home most often in the fen,
It waxes in the water and grimly wounds
And burns with blood any bairn
Who in any way tries to grasp it.
The Old Norwegian Rune Rhyme:
Man is the increase of dust,
Mighty is the talon span of the hawk.
The Old Icelandic Rune Poem:
Man is the joy of man and the increase of dust
And the adornment of ships.

From now on I shall use EG and AS to distinguish between the 2 sets of runes used.
As you can see by the rune poem verses, this rune apparently has two different meanings. This is because the Norwegian and Icelandic poems are based on the 16 rune Younger Futhark, whereas I’m using the Anglo Saxon Futhark of between 29 and 33 runes, which are thought to have been added because of the different dialects in the British Isles.
The shape of the rune is said to suggest a splayed hand held up to ward off harm. It is also the stance taken by many heathens when calling on the Gods. I see it as a bridge between Gods and men. Man reaching for higher knowledge and understanding.
Today, my daughter who has been visiting, returns to the UK. There is my pain for today. I’ve just got used to having her around, now, like the sedge grass, I have to let her go again and return to my semi solitary existence. In the Younger Futhark, this refers to Man in all his weakness.
