After my morning ritual I draw a card, rune, ogham, whatever I decide to use that day and ask what I need to know that day. Today I used "The Druid Plant Oracle" by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm. I drew Meadowsweet:
Daily Draw Tuesday, 23 August 2016 Method: Druid Plant Oracle Plant Dawn: Meadowsweet Transition, Blessing, Celebration. Well I don’t feel there is anything to celebrate having just caught my first cold in 2 or 3 years! So I don’t feel blessed either. The negative meaning of the card is more appropriate. Transience, The Familiar and Routine. This to me feels like just another day. This is a plant that I won’t find growing here, as it likes damp meadows, river banks, ditches, marshland and wet woodland. Here was just a desert until man came along and built a small artificial town. I call it artificial as there is a golf course with green grass which wastes a lot of water. If you are lucky enough to live in an area where this plant grows, it grows to just over 3ft. It has tiny 5 petaled flowers, cream in colour, blooming from June to August. It has a sweet almond like scent. The image on this card has a depiction of Blodeuwedd in the bottom left corner. In the Mabinogion, she was made from flowers including meadowsweet by the Druid Gwydion as a wife for Lleu Llaw Gyffes. In days long gone, change was considered to be significant and was celebrated but in modern times we change so much, so often, it isn’t even considered. People change jobs, partners, houses, cars and even countries but the result of all this fast paced living means we have forgotten how to live in the moment, always thinking ahead, looking to the future, but one day your future will arrive quickly also, in the form of your grave. Perhaps I can celebrate the familiar pattern to my life and enjoy the fact that it doesn’t change. Yes, routine can be dull but the stability can provide a good place for deepening the character and learning about the soul.
